The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has launched a large-scale, multi-agency training programme aimed at strengthening the professionalism and coordination of security personnel across the state, with over 1,000 operatives set to benefit from the 10-month initiative.

The programme, which commenced on March 25, 2026, is part of a broader strategy to reposition security operations in Lagos through enhanced skills, ethical standards, and inter-agency collaboration. It is regarded as one of the most comprehensive security capacity-building efforts ever undertaken in Nigeria.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, stressed that modern security challenges require more than just infrastructure and equipment. He noted that the evolving nature of threats demands well-trained personnel capable of intelligence-driven and coordinated responses.

According to him, the training, themed “Enhancing Professional Capacity, Ethical Standards and Inter-Agency Collaboration for Effective Security Operations,” will be implemented in phases throughout 2026. He added that the initiative is built on three core pillars—professional competence, ethical conduct, and synergy among agencies.

Ogunsan also highlighted the importance of public trust in effective security delivery, noting that citizens must perceive security operatives as protectors of rights, not just enforcers of the law. He emphasized that no single agency can address the complexities of security in a fast-growing megacity like Lagos, making collaboration essential.

The LSSTF boss commended the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his continued support and strategic leadership in strengthening the state’s security architecture.

The two-day training drew participants from a wide range of security and law enforcement bodies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army (OP Mesa), Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, among others.

Also in attendance were top security officials and stakeholders, including representatives of the LSSTF Board and heads of key agencies, reflecting a unified approach to tackling security challenges in the state.

The initiative underscores a growing recognition that sustainable security outcomes depend not only on physical infrastructure but also on continuous investment in human capital development.
