The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects in Ijebu-Ode who are allegedly linked to a kidnapping and murder case in Edo State, as investigations continue into the activities of a suspected criminal syndicate.

The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-driven investigations by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder investigation in the Okada area of Edo State.

“The suspects were identified as Gafaru Adamu, aged 25, and Muhammed Sanni, aged 20. Preliminary findings revealed that they are wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State,” the statement said.

The police further disclosed that intelligence gathered during the investigation linked the suspects to a seven-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the crime under investigation.

During a search conducted by operatives, one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones were recovered from the suspects.

“Further intelligence gathered by the Command indicates that the suspects are alleged members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident under investigation. During the course of the investigation, operatives recovered one pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects,” the statement added.

The Command noted that the offences under investigation were committed outside Ogun State and, as a result, the suspects and recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and intelligence-gathering efforts of the operatives involved in the operation.

“The Command remains resolute in its determination to prevent criminal elements from using Ogun State as a hideout or transit point for unlawful activities,” Ojajuni stated.

He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to public safety through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with security agencies across state boundaries.

The Ogun State Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality.
