An official of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, and two other individuals have reportedly been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to sources, the victims were travelling to deliver ransom and other items demanded for the release of a previously kidnapped resident when they were ambushed by armed men.
The team was said to be conveying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice as part of efforts to secure the victim’s freedom. However, reports indicate that the kidnapped victim may have already been killed before the ransom delivery team arrived, a development allegedly unknown to those on the mission.
The abductors reportedly instructed the group to proceed to a forest location along the Kwara-Kogi border route, where they were seized at gunpoint and taken away.
Sources also claimed that Fabiyi had received warnings against embarking on the journey but proceeded with the trip.
The incident has sparked concern within the community, particularly as reports suggest the abduction was not immediately reported to security agencies.
When contacted, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command had not received any formal report regarding the alleged kidnapping of an OPC member.
He stated that the police would commence investigations once an official complaint is lodged with the command.
Security authorities are yet to issue further details on the whereabouts of the abducted victims or any ongoing rescue efforts.
