Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during an offensive operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The operation, carried out on Friday, June 27, 2026, was part of ongoing military efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and strengthening security across communities in the North-West.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation was launched following credible intelligence that members of the Lakurawa group were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
Danja disclosed that troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists in a bid to thwart the planned attack.
“As the terrorists approached the ambush position, troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire,” the statement said.
The military spokesman added that the troops’ superior firepower forced the terrorists into disarray, leading to the neutralisation of two insurgents, while other members of the group fled into nearby forests.
Following the encounter, troops reportedly conducted exploitation operations in the area and recovered several items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements operating across the North-West.
It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
