The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to use their service year to acquire relevant skills, develop an entrepreneurial mindset and explore legitimate opportunities to build sustainable sources of income.
Nafiu gave the charge while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Anambra State.
He advised the Corps Members to maximise the opportunities available during the service year, build meaningful relationships and leverage business opportunities for wealth creation.
The NYSC Director-General also urged them to embrace diligence and acquire multiple skills while they were still young, stressing the importance of having diversified sources of income.
According to him, depending solely on one source of income may not be sufficient to meet financial obligations, urging the Corps Members to explore other legitimate avenues for financial growth.
“Open your eyes, make friends and leverage comparative advantage. Buy shares for long-term investments,” Nafiu said.
He further encouraged the Corps Members to make meaningful contributions to their host communities and take pride in the teaching profession by imparting knowledge and positively impacting the communities where they are deployed.
Earlier, the NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, disclosed in her camp situation report that 1,623 Corps Members had been registered for the Orientation Course.
Ojisua described the Corps Members as disciplined, cooperative and supportive, noting that many had voluntarily served on various committees and contributed positively to the smooth running of the Orientation Camp.
She appreciated the Director-General for visiting the camp, describing his presence as a source of encouragement to both the Corps Members and camp officials.
