Nigerian table tennis players Matthew Kuti and Favour Ojo have been selected among 15 African athletes who will compete in the table tennis event at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

The competition is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 5, bringing together 64 male and female players representing 41 National Olympic Committees.

The event will feature singles and mixed doubles competitions, offering young athletes an opportunity to compete internationally and gain valuable experience.

Kuti and Ojo’s selection places Nigeria among the African countries represented at the youth sporting event.

The Youth Olympic Games are designed to bring together promising young athletes from different countries, giving them the opportunity to compete while developing their sporting skills on an international stage.

For Nigeria, participation in the table tennis competition offers a platform to showcase emerging talent and strengthen the country’s presence in the sport.

The selection also highlights the importance of sustained investment in youth development, coaching and competitive opportunities for young Nigerian athletes.

As preparations continue towards the Dakar games, attention will be on the selected players and their performances against some of the continent’s best young table tennis talents.
