The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to discredit the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on Saturday.

The council, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, alleged that the opposition was planning to use fake news, artificial intelligence, deepfake videos and counterfeit documents to manipulate public opinion against the APC campaign, President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other party leaders.

According to Alake, the alleged campaign began with the circulation of a photograph showing a security vehicle stationed at a junction near one of the APC campaign billboards in Kaduna.

He alleged that the image was misrepresented as showing security personnel deployed to protect APC billboards, adding that the claim was subsequently published by a national newspaper before being amplified by Atiku on his social media platforms.

The APC campaign council also alleged that another document circulating online, purportedly signed by Governor Uba Sani and addressed to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claimed that the Kaduna State Government had released N2.3 trillion to host the rally.

Alake described the document and the claim as fake and baseless.

He said the alleged N2.3 trillion expenditure was unrealistic, noting that the figure was higher than the combined budgets of Kaduna State for 2024, 2025 and 2026.

“For context, the combined Kaduna State budgets for 2024 (N458.271 billion), 2025 (N790.439 billion), and 2026 (N985.9 billion) are still less than N2.3 trillion,” he said.

The campaign council further alleged that old, doctored and deepfake videos could be circulated during or after the rally to create the impression of public resentment against the APC campaign.

The council urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify information before accepting or sharing materials circulating on social media.

Alake accused Atiku and the ADC of engaging in what he described as a coordinated misinformation campaign aimed at undermining the APC’s presidential campaign.

“We hereby use this opportunity to alert the general public about this malicious and ignoble plan,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to reject what he called attempts to manipulate public opinion and discredit the APC campaign.
