The Nigeria National League (NNL) and Locker Room Bonus, a direct-to-athlete reward initiative supported by betPawa, have renewed their partnership for the 2026/2027 football season in an agreement valued at up to ₦496.9m.
The renewed agreement is designed to strengthen player welfare by providing direct financial rewards to players and technical officials following match victories.
According to details of the partnership, the financial package covers match-win bonuses, promotional support and an additional ₦8m fund dedicated to recognising outstanding individual players and clubs at the end of the season.
The programme will cover the NNL’s 34 clubs across four conferences, with eligible players and technical staff receiving their bonuses through mobile money transactions.
Under the arrangement, 20 players and three technical staff members are eligible to receive ₦56,000 each following a victory, amounting to ₦1.288m for each winning team.
The NNL’s Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, said the initiative had contributed to increased competitiveness in the league.
“It has also made the league very competitive. Everybody wants to win and therefore, you see there’s an enhancement of performance by the players,” Alanana said.
He added that coaches were also putting in greater effort to ensure their teams secured victories, noting that the programme had encouraged stronger competition among participating clubs.
BetPawa Regional Manager for West and Southern Africa, Nii Ashong Katai, said athlete welfare remained central to the company’s commitment.
“Athlete welfare is central to BetPawa. Through the Locker Room Bonus, we’re recognising athletes’ efforts and extending direct support to more players, wherever they compete,” Katai said.
The renewed partnership builds on the programme’s reported activities during the 2025/2026 season.
According to the organisers, more than 5,000 direct mobile transactions valued at ₦289.7m were completed during the regular season and Super Four competition.
The payment arrangement uses identity verification and mobile payment infrastructure to ensure that bonuses reach the intended recipients.
The NNL and its partners said the programme would continue to support players and technical officials across the league.
The 2026/2027 Nigeria National League season is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026.
