The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 while maintaining its intention to contest legislative seats in Anambra State.

The party’s position highlights a political arrangement in which it intends to support Tinubu at the presidential level while retaining its own platform for contests in the National Assembly and the Anambra State House of Assembly.

APGA National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, said the party had adopted Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate.

“In Anambra, it is Tinubu for President, APGA for Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly,” Opara said.

The party’s position is consistent with its previously announced decision not to field a presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has also been associated with the support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign. Soludo was included in the President’s revised Presidential Campaign Council as the Anambra State coordinator.

The development has drawn attention to political cooperation between APGA and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), even as APGA seeks to preserve its independent identity in state and legislative contests.

The party has linked its support for the President to cooperation on national development, security and economic priorities.

The arrangement could shape political competition in Anambra ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly as parties prepare to select candidates and mobilise voters.

However, support for a presidential candidate does not automatically determine the outcome of legislative contests, where parties will still need to present candidates and persuade voters.

As the election approaches, the extent of cooperation between APGA and Tinubu’s campaign, as well as the party’s performance in legislative races, will remain important issues in the state’s political landscape.
