Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and the political coalition led by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fubara made the declaration on Tuesday during the unveiling of the Rainbow Coalition’s candidates in Rivers State, where he urged members to put past disagreements behind them and work together towards the next elections.
The governor described the coalition as a political family and expressed happiness at being reunited with allies following the crisis that previously divided the group.
“I’m really happy to be here, not just being here, but standing in the midst of my family,” Fubara said.
He acknowledged Wike and other political leaders for their roles in his emergence as governor and pledged to support the coalition’s candidates.
“I’m here with all my heart, my soul, and my body, and I will do everything within my power to ensure that we have victory, not just for Mr President, who has stood for me in my most difficult time, but also to ensure that this power still remains in our own bloc,” he said.
Fubara also thanked Tinubu for his support during a difficult period in Rivers State politics and reaffirmed his commitment to the political bloc.
The Rainbow Coalition comprises seven political parties: the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Action Alliance, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, Allied Peoples Movement and Boot Party.
Despite the coalition’s cross-party membership, its consensus candidates for the 2027 elections emerged from the APC and PDP.
For the governorship election, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda emerged as the coalition’s candidate on the APC platform, with Major Jack as his running mate.
The coalition also unveiled candidates for senatorial, House of Representatives and Rivers State House of Assembly seats.
The APC secured two of the three senatorial nominations, while the PDP secured one. The coalition’s House of Representatives list includes 10 APC candidates and three PDP candidates, while its State House of Assembly list comprises 21 APC candidates and 11 PDP candidates.
The development signals an effort by the coalition to coordinate support across party lines ahead of the elections.
Fubara’s declaration also reinforces the political alignment between the Rivers State governor, Wike and Tinubu as the parties begin positioning themselves for 2027.
The coalition will now face the task of translating its agreement and candidate selection into grassroots mobilisation and electoral support across Rivers State.
