The All Progressives Congress (APC) says preparations are complete for the formal launch of its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24, as the ruling party intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this on Tuesday after briefing President Bola Tinubu on campaign arrangements alongside the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdul’aziz Yari.
Yilwatda also claimed that elements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Accord were backing Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“If you look at what the party is doing now, the opposition parties are with us. All political parties that have defeated us in any election are with us; PDP is with us, APGA is with us, Accord is with us,” Yilwatda said.
He added that preparations for the campaign launch had been completed, with party members, state structures and committees ready for the exercise.
“For now, everything is set; the preparation is on, the members are motivated, the states, the committees are ready, and everything that is supposed to be done has been done,” he said.
Yari said the campaign council intended to focus on the administration’s record rather than personal attacks against political opponents.
“We are going to do a campaign with the records – a responsible campaign, no insults, no calling of names, because there’s no name before us, but we have a record before us to show to Nigerians,” Yari said.
He urged Nigerians to examine the government’s record as they consider the President’s bid for a second term.
However, the claim of broad opposition support has been disputed. A faction of the PDP led by Tanimu Turaki has rejected the suggestion that the party supports Tinubu’s re-election, saying it would not endorse the APC-led government or its policies.
The political landscape therefore remains contested, despite the APC leadership’s confidence in its campaign preparations and support network.
The Kaduna launch is expected to mark a key stage in the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.
