Leaders, stakeholders, and residents across Ikorodu Division gathered at the Ikorodu Town Hall in a strong show of unity as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside traditional leaders, religious leaders, market men and women, students, artisans and professionals, declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rally served as a platform to reflect on governance outcomes, mobilise grassroots support, and reinforce the division’s long-standing progressive identity.
The event commenced with an opening address by Engr. Rev. Titilola Onafowokan, PhD, who emphasised the importance of unity, participation, and continuity in sustaining development across the division and the nation.
Chairman of APC in Ikorodu Division and Chairman of the organizing committee, Asiwaju Kaoli Olatunji Olusanya, said the essence of the gathering was to demonstrate the political strength and relevance of the division.
He stated, “The essence of this gathering is to show our population strength and political value. In all indices — whether in general or local government elections or in the e-membership registration — Ikorodu is leading. That means the population in Ikorodu has value.” He added, “With the number of people present here today, we are ready to support Asiwaju. Progressive ideology is in our DNA, and Ikorodu has consistently demonstrated this progressive spirit.”
Senator Mukhail Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, described the event as a reaffirmation of confidence in the President’s leadership.
He said, “This gathering is to reaffirm our support and further mobilise our people. Asiwaju is a man of focus. In 1999, when others were afraid, he was bold. When others compromised, he stood firm. When others doubted democracy, he defended it. That is why history remembers him, and remembers him for good.”
Hon. Babajimi Benson, Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, commended residents for their strong participation in the APC e-membership registration exercise. He said, “We defeated many local governments in the e-membership registration, and we must keep it up. We need continuity to support our President because he has done a lot for us.”
Emphasising the administration’s inclusive vision, he added, “Tinubu wants the son of nobody to become somebody without knowing anybody. He has listened to the people and is doing what we want.”
The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also praised the administration’s strides in infrastructure and economic reforms. She said, “The president has focused on infrastructural development in a way we have never witnessed in Nigeria. He has been able to put our economy on the path of recovery, and under his leadership, we expect steady growth and stability in the years ahead.”
Speaking on agricultural development, Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Abisola Olusanya, acknowledged the President’s commitment to food security.
She said, “We appreciate the interventions of President Tinubu, especially in the area of food security. Agriculture has remained at the forefront of the Renewed Hope Agenda, and it has become a sector that many people now want to participate in.” She added, “From the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development to the rehabilitation of rural roads that connect production hubs to processing and marketing centres, these efforts are strengthening our food systems and creating opportunities across the value chain.”
The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Abdullateef Ladega, in his welcome address, described the gathering as a historic demonstration of loyalty and collective resolve to support policies and leadership that have positively impacted the people.
Ladega lauded the president’s leadership across key sectors, including healthcare, infrastructure, youth sports, and education.
He said, “To sustain the Renewed Hope Agenda and the progress we are witnessing across sectors, we must continue to support Asiwaju for a second term.”
The representative of the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) expressed appreciation to leaders of the division for recognising students as vital stakeholders in governance. He stressed the association’s non-partisan stance and focus on education and youth development. “I speak not as a partisan voice, but as a representative of students whose primary concern has always been education, opportunity, and the future of our generation,” he said.
He highlighted the impact of initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), 3 Million Technical Talent Programme (3MTT), iDICE, and the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), noting that they have helped students remain in school, gain relevant skills, and prepare for the future, while urging students to remain united and focused.
