It was a day of gratitude, reflection and celebration as both Christian and Muslim communities came together on Sunday to honour the birthday of Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, former Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA.

The day began with a special Sunday morning thanksgiving service, which drew family members, friends, political associates, and residents of the community. The service was organized by the Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande and offered a platform to celebrate Hon. Ajala’s remarkable journey in leadership, governance, and community development.

Prayers of thanksgiving and goodwill were offered for his life, health, and continued service. Attendees described him as a transformative leader whose dedication to grassroots development has left an indelible mark.

After the church service, the celebration moved to his residence in Imoru, where an Islamic programme was held.

The Muslim prayers further reflected the inclusive nature of the honour, symbolizing Ajala’s broad appeal and the unity he fosters across faiths.

The Islamic event drew several dignitaries and political leaders, including Hon. Adeyemi Alli, Hon. Nureni Akinsanya, Hon. Lekan Fatodu, Hon. Mujeeb Daramola, the Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande, his vice, alongside other party leaders, community members and supporters.

Speaking at the gathering, the celebrator, Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, seized the opportunity to encourage civic responsibility among Nigerians.

He specifically emphasized the importance of voter registration, which commences tomorrow.

“If truly we appreciate what President Tinubu is doing and we want a continuity, we need our voter’s cards,” Ajala said.

He also appealed to religious leaders to use their influence to sensitize their congregations on the importance of voter registration and active participation in governance.

Adding his voice to the tributes, Otunba Adebayo Adekunle, CDC Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye, described Ajala as an extraordinary leader whose achievements speak for themselves.

“If I have to talk, we’ll talk about Martin Michael, because he’s a gifted child of God. He has been doing and he did very, very well. I cannot quantify him, because the thing is very obvious. If you go to the secretariat, you will see that this man has done wonderfully well. And what I know about this SEDA is that so far we have been very lucky. Right from the time of Yemi Ali — Yemi Ali was the traditional person there. Then he handed over to Ajala, and both of them, from one person to the other, did well. With the little resources Yemi Ali had, he performed. But this man’s own is very fantastic. You cannot compare it.”

The day’s events, which combined both church service and Islamic prayers, underscored the celebrant’s acceptance across faiths and political divides. It also highlighted the deep respect and admiration Ajala enjoys within his community, where many described him as a “leader for all.”
