The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, led a high-powered security assessment team to Jos on Thursday, 2 April 2026, in a strategic move to bolster peace and stabilize security across Plateau State. The visit saw top security officials coordinating with state authorities to address emerging threats and safeguard communities.

Upon arrival, Lieutenant General Shaibu was warmly received by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Mutfwang, in a display of strong civil-military cooperation aimed at tackling the state’s security challenges.

During the visit, the COAS received a detailed operational briefing from Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE. The briefing focused on ongoing operations and proactive measures to protect lives and property, while restoring calm to affected communities.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also engaged with community leaders and residents, urging them to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies. “The Nigerian Army is committed to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens. We call on residents to comply with the curfew and support ongoing operations while carrying on with their lawful activities,” he said.

Local government leaders welcomed the visit, noting its positive impact on public confidence. The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Dachung Bagos, stated that the presence of the nation’s top military leadership reassures residents and strengthens trust in security efforts. Councillor Ladi Dangyok of Naraguta ‘B’ Ward echoed similar sentiments, praising the swift intervention.

Under the COAS’s leadership, the Nigerian Army remains determined to work closely with sister security agencies and the Plateau State Government to decisively address security challenges, restore lasting peace, and ensure that Plateau State remains safe and secure for all citizens.

Appolonia Anele, Colonel and Acting Director, Army Public Relations, confirmed the visit and emphasized the coordinated efforts of all security stakeholders.
