The Federal High Court has granted bail in the sum of N200 million to former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in a case involving alleged money laundering and fraud.

Justice Rilwani Aikawa approved the bail application on Tuesday following El-Rufai’s arraignment by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The anti-graft agency had on March 24 arraigned El-Rufai alongside Joel Adoga on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged financial crimes. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.

In a related development, another judge, Darius Khobo, of the Kaduna State High Court, adjourned ruling on a separate bail application filed by El-Rufai to April 21, 2026.

Earlier, the ICPC had also arraigned the former governor on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office, with a co-defendant, Amadu Sule, removed from the case.

El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19, shortly after his release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was, however, temporarily released on March 27 on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial.

“The court has granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200 million,” Justice Rilwani Aikawa ruled.
