Nigeria’s Future Eagles recorded a 2-1 victory over Cyprus before playing a 1-1 draw with Pakistan in their latest fixtures at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival.
The Nigerian youngsters came from behind to defeat Cyprus in their first match on Monday, with Wisdom Oche and substitute Timothy Ijach scoring to secure the victory.
Cyprus took the lead in the 12th minute through Georgios Christodoulou. Nigeria responded five minutes later when Oche found the net to restore parity.
Ijach completed the comeback in the 26th minute, scoring what proved to be the winning goal as the Future Eagles held on to claim their first victory of the tournament.
However, the Nigerian side was unable to maintain the winning momentum in its subsequent encounter with Pakistan, settling for a 1-1 draw despite creating opportunities to secure another victory.
The draw denied Nigeria consecutive wins on the day, following the team’s improved attacking display against Cyprus.
The results came as the young Nigerian players continued their participation in the international youth competition, which provides opportunities for players to gain experience against opponents from other countries.
The Future Eagles had entered Monday’s fixtures looking to build on their earlier performances in the competition. Their victory over Cyprus demonstrated their ability to recover after conceding an early goal, while the draw against Pakistan left room for improvement in converting chances.
The team will look to build on the positive aspects of its performances as it awaits further details about the next phase of the competition.
The FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival is designed to provide young footballers with competitive exposure and opportunities to develop through international matches.
The results against Cyprus and Pakistan add to the experience of Nigeria’s youth team as the players continue their development on the international stage.
