The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has unanimously endorsed the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections.

The decision was announced by Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi on behalf of the council following a meeting held at Lagos House Marina. Members of the council also disclosed that they jointly paid for Hamzat’s nomination form, signaling strong internal backing for his candidacy after a series of consultations within the party.

Reacting to the development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the endorsement as a product of thorough deliberations by the party’s apex advisory body in the state.

He said, “Today, I joined the meeting of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) held at Lagos House, Marina. After exhaustive deliberations, the apex advisory body of our great party, the APC in Lagos State, officially endorsed and adopted Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

“Femi has been a dedicated partner in all we have achieved for Lagos so far. The full support of the GAC gives us confidence that the work we have started will continue without interruption.

“We remain focused on staying the course and keeping Lagos moving forward.”

The endorsement marks a significant step in the build-up to the 2027 governorship election in Lagos, consolidating party support around Hamzat ahead of the APC primary.
