The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has marked the beginning of 2026 by celebrating the first babies of the year in Surulere, Lagos, while also settling medical bills worth ₦53 million for patients across major health facilities in the area.

Gbajabiamila disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the annual tradition was carried out alongside his wife, Salamatu Gbajabiamila, at the Gbaja Maternal and Child Centre.

According to him, Baby Jumoke Yusuf, a male child weighing 3.7kg, was the first baby born in Surulere in 2026, arriving at 12:01am, while Baby Kalu followed at 12:10am.

“Today, as we have done every year, myself and my wife, Salamatu, celebrated the first baby of the year in Surulere, Lagos, at Gbaja Maternal and Child Centre,” Gbajabiamila said.

“Baby Jumoke Yusuf (male), weighing 3.7kg, arrived at 12:01am, followed by the second baby, Baby Kalu, who came at 12:10am. I supported their parents with baby items and cash gifts to mark this special day.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives also visited patients at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, and the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital, Iyun Road, Surulere, where outstanding medical bills for indigent patients were fully paid.

“I visited patients at LUTH, Idi Araba, and Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital, Surulere, where ₦53 million medical bills were fully settled for those unable to pay, to ensure access to care for those in need,” he stated.

Gbajabiamila further revealed that he visited the Heart of Gold Hospice, Ilegogoro, Surulere, where gifts were shared with children receiving special care.

As the new year begins, he offered prayers for Nigerians.

“As 2026 begins, may good health and prosperity lead us forward,” he added.
