Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he almost lost his position last year over the alleged involvement of actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot in the political crisis that rocked the Lagos State House of Assembly during the speakership tussle involving Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila made the disclosure in a video that circulated widely on social media on Thursday, where he recounted how President Bola Tinubu summoned him to his Abuja residence at the peak of the Assembly crisis.

According to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports allegedly linking Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly, to efforts aimed at destabilising the state legislature.

“I almost lost my job as Chief of Staff last year because of Desmond Elliot,” Gbajabiamila said in the viral video.

He explained that the president questioned him over Elliot’s alleged role in the Assembly crisis, saying: “Mr. President called me to his house in Abuja during the Lagos Speaker Obasa saga. He said, ‘I hear this Desmond is your boy, the one we gave you.’”

Gbajabiamila said he acknowledged his relationship with the lawmaker but denied any personal involvement in the political turmoil surrounding the leadership battle in the Lagos Assembly.

The crisis surrounding Obasa’s leadership sparked intense political tension within the Lagos political structure and generated widespread public attention across the state.
