The Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has held its 22nd Annual Spelling Bee Competition, with outstanding students emerging as champions in the primary and secondary school categories.
The competition, held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Ijede LCDA Multipurpose Hall, was organised to promote academic excellence, improve students’ spelling abilities and encourage healthy academic competition among pupils and students in Ijede and its environs.

The initiative was organised by the New Era Foundation in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Education, with winners in the various categories receiving prizes in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Femi Kabir Kareem, described the competition as more than a test of spelling proficiency.
According to him, the competition provides students with an opportunity to overcome stage fright, build confidence and demonstrate their intellectual abilities before an audience.
“This competition isn’t just about spelling; it is a rigorous exercise that provides an opportunity for students to overcome stage fright and demonstrate their intellectual abilities before an audience. I therefore urge participants to give their best,” he said.
He also commended the teachers for their dedication and contribution to the students’ achievements.
