Lagos State has reinforced its reputation as a powerhouse of commerce, entertainment, and sports in Nigeria with the successful hosting of the electrifying “Chaos in the Ring 4” boxing event.
The historic fight night, held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, drew global attention as it delivered a blend of elite professional boxing and celebrity showdowns, positioning Lagos firmly on the international stage.
The event, co-sponsored by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sport Commission (LSSC), in partnership with Balmoral Group and Amir Khan’s AK Promotions, showcased top-tier African talent while attracting a vibrant mix of sports enthusiasts and entertainment lovers.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of LSSC, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, highlighted Lagos’ growing dominance as a destination for global sporting and entertainment events.
“Lagos State is officially and actively the centre of commerce, entertainment, sports, and everything good that Nigeria has to offer. Consistently, Lagos State is always leading the charge, and this remarkable event further reinforces the significance of entertainment and sports in our society,” he said.
Fatodu further emphasized the state’s readiness to host world-class events, noting that Lagos offers the right environment for international competitions and investments.
“What we are saying to the public and the global community is that Lagos State is an environment that is friendly, suitable, and fitting for any international competition. Lagos can host events that attract the best talents in sports and drive economic value across borders,” he added.
In the night’s main professional bout, Godday Appah defeated Ezra Arenyeka via split decision (98-92, 95-95, 96-95) to claim the WBO cruiserweight title in a fiercely contested match.
The celebrity clash between Afro music star Habeeb Badmus, popularly known as Portable, and skit maker Carter Efe also thrilled the audience. Carter Efe secured a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 30-27), ending Portable’s unbeaten run in celebrity boxing.
The high-energy event attracted massive viewership and fan engagement, further underlining Lagos State’s capacity to partner with global promoters and host premium sporting spectacles.
With events like “Chaos in the Ring 4,” Lagos continues to solidify its standing not just as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, but as a leading hub for international sports and entertainment in Africa.
