A Lagos-based secondary school teacher, Adeyemo Busayo Victoria, has emerged winner of the 2026 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, securing the national recognition at the award’s 12th edition.

Victoria, who teaches at Lanre Awolokun High School, Gbagada, Lagos State, was announced as the overall winner at the competition’s grand finale held on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The award, organised by the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, recognises outstanding teachers and their contributions to teaching and learning across the country.

This year’s competition attracted 2,243 valid entries from teachers nationwide, reflecting participation from different parts of the country.

According to the organisers’ competition figures, 213 teachers qualified for the second phase of assessment, while 10 finalists eventually advanced to the final stage.

Victoria’s emergence as the 2026 winner adds to Lagos State’s record in the national competition.

The state previously produced a winner in 2023, when Adeola Adedunke Adefemi of Keke Senior High School, Agege, clinched the award.

Other Lagos-based teachers have also featured among the competition’s finalists. Adeola Akinsulure of Omole Senior Grammar School, Ikeja, emerged first runner-up in 2025, while Abidoye Aderonke Ibiyemi of Kosofe Senior College, Agboyi-Ketu, was among the finalists in 2024.

The Maltina Teacher of the Year competition was established to recognise excellence in the teaching profession and encourage improved standards in Nigerian secondary schools.

Victoria’s recognition places her among educators whose work has received national attention through the initiative.

The award also draws attention to the contribution of classroom teachers to the development of students and the wider education system.
