Newcastle United has moved to shut down speculation over the future of Swedish striker Alexander Isak, following a social media post from the player on Thursday evening.
In a statement, the club said it was “disappointed” by Isak’s remarks but stressed that the 24-year-old remains firmly under contract and no promise has ever been made that he could leave during this transfer window.
“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views,” Newcastle said. “As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met.”
The club underlined Isak’s importance to its long-term project and traditions, adding that he “remains part of our family” and will be welcomed back when ready to rejoin the squad.
Background on Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak, born in Solna, Sweden, has long been regarded as one of Europe’s brightest attacking talents. After breaking through at AIK, he moved to Borussia Dortmund before flourishing at Real Sociedad in Spain, where his technical skill and eye for goal attracted widespread attention.
Newcastle United signed him in 2022 for a club-record £63 million, underscoring the ambition of its new ownership. Since then, he has become a fan favorite at St James’ Park, playing a decisive role in helping Eddie Howe’s side qualify for European football.
Despite ongoing transfer rumors linking him with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Newcastle has consistently maintained its stance that Isak is central to its long-term vision. The latest controversy stems from his social media activity, but the club’s firm response signals its determination to keep hold of its star striker as it continues its push for success.
