A court in Norway has sentenced Nigerian youth international Daniel Daga to six months in prison after finding him guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.
Daga, a 19-year-old midfielder who plays for Molde FK and the Nigeria U-20 national football team, was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs following the ruling delivered on Tuesday.
According to a report by TV 2 Norway, the case originated from an incident reported to police in April 2025. Prosecutors subsequently charged the player under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code, which addresses sexual activity carried out without consent.
Reacting to the judgment, Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the footballer is disappointed with the verdict and insists that the encounter was consensual. “He is very upset about the verdict. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent,” she said, noting that the ruling would be appealed.
Meanwhile, Molde FK confirmed that the player will not be included in the club’s matchday squad pending the conclusion of the legal process. The club’s chairman, Tarje Nordstrand Jacobsen, described the situation as difficult and said the club would refrain from further comments while the case continues.
