A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, identified as Kamoru Omokoye, has been shot dead by suspected cultists at Abijo Bus Stop in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
Omokoye was reportedly attacked around 9am on Sunday by two men who arrived at the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350.
According to a police source, the assailants shot the NURTW member in the head before fleeing the scene.
The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, for treatment but was pronounced dead by a doctor.
Following the incident, detectives visited the scene and combed the area in an effort to track down the perpetrators. The Lagos State Police Command has also commenced investigation into the killing.
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, reported that Omokoye, popularly known as Zobo, was sitting at a spot where local gin, popularly called ogogoro, was being sold when the attackers opened fire.
The platform said at least three other people sustained gunshot injuries during the attack, while others reportedly fled the scene.
Omokoye was said to have previously worked at Awoyaya Bus Stop before moving to GRA Bus Stop. He reportedly left behind an eight-month-old child.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, saying the police had commenced investigation.
