In a shining example of service and dedication, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has transformed the learning environment at Community Primary School, Swali, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Brown-Ofoeme Ebubechukwu, from Nnewi in Anambra State, undertook the renovation of four dilapidated classroom blocks and the headteacher’s office under the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) programme. His intervention saw the complete re-roofing of the structures, installation of PVC ceilings, replacement of doors and windows, and a fresh coat of paint on all buildings.
What began as an anti-cultism campaign in local schools evolved into a major infrastructure overhaul after Brown witnessed the appalling learning conditions.
Upon encountering the poor state of learning environments, I was inspired to take on a more tangible intervention,” he explained.
In addition to the structural facelift, the corps member organised medical outreach programmes for NYSC officials, distributed exercise books to 200 pupils, and facilitated vocational training sessions for local women to boost their economic prospects.
The project stands as a testament to the transformative impact that individual corps members can make through passion, vision, and selfless community service during their one-year national assignment.
