It was a great celebration of life as children, family members, friends, church leaders, and associates gathered to bid farewell to Deaconess Victoria Taiwo Adegelu (née Fadahunsi), popularly known as Overseer Obinrin, who slept in the Lord on July 6, 2025, at the age of 74.
The atmosphere was filled with both emotions and gratitude — emotions for the irreparable loss of a mother, grandmother and spiritual matriarch and gratitude for a life well spent in service to God and humanity. Hymns, tributes, and testimonies highlighted the two-day event that began with a Christian wake on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at her residence in Ibafo, Ogun State.
The following morning, a Service of Songs and interment was held at the same residence, followed by a grand outing and thanksgiving service at the TACN Olorunda Assembly, International Convention Grounds, Oworonshoki, Lagos, where hundreds gathered to honour her memory.
The reception took place at the same venue, rounding off the celebration of a virtuous woman.
Tributes from the Children
Speaking at the service, her daughter, Mrs. Adenike Odofin, described her mother as the pillar of her life.
“She was a selfless mother, a woman of integrity and honour. I can’t fully describe her worth in my life, especially in the lives of my children. She was my backbone, always there for me. When everything seemed down, she gave me words of encouragement. She preached resilience and patience, reminding me that challenges are part of life. She was my hero, and I will miss her dearly. I pray Jesus accepts her soul.”
The last child of the deceased, Miss Oluwakemi, also recalled her mother’s kindheartedness.
“My mum was compassionate and loving. She knew God and served Him faithfully. She lived life on her own terms and was a true friend to me. I was her therapist, and she always opened her heart to me. I will miss her warmth, her love, and her words of wisdom. I pray that Almighty God accepts her soul. Amen.”
Tributes from Guests
Many dignitaries and well-wishers also paid glowing tributes to Deaconess Adegelu, testifying to her generosity, godliness, and service to humanity.
A guest simply identified as Samuel said, “Mama Adegelu was more than a mother to her children; she was a mother to everyone who came close to her. Her doors were always open, and she touched lives with her kindness.”
He added, “Her legacy will remain indelible, especially in the way she raised godly children and mentored younger women in the church. She lived a fulfilled life.”
Another guest, Oladipo, described mama as a devout Christian. He stated, “Mama was a committed Christian and a strong pillar in the church. She was steadfast in prayer, humble in service, and dedicated to kingdom work.”
“We celebrate her life because she left a good testimony for all believers to emulate. Her departure is a loss to us, but heaven has gained a saint.”
Also, One Mrs Folashade recalled fond memories of her mother.
“Mama Adegelu was a role model to many of us women. She combined discipline with love and showed us how to live in peace with our families and neighbours.”
“She was a woman of strong character, prayerful and generous. I will miss her motherly counsel and the warmth she shared with everyone around her.”
