Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with local security outfits, have rescued a 57-year-old woman, Mrs. Vivian George, who was abducted in Igbanke, Edo State.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the victim was kidnapped on Saturday while heading to the farm with her son, Chinedu.
According to the statement, the kidnappers intercepted the duo during the journey, but the victim’s son managed to escape, leaving his mother in the custody of the abductors.
The police said the son immediately reported the incident, prompting the swift deployment of detectives, personnel of the Edo State Security Corps, and local hunters into the forest in search of the kidnappers.
During the operation, security operatives reportedly engaged the abductors in a gun battle, forcing them to flee and abandon the victim.
Mrs. George was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with her family members following the successful rescue mission.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, commended the bravery and prompt response of the operatives and local security teams involved in the operation.
He praised the coordinated efforts of the security personnel, describing the rescue as a testament to effective collaboration between the police and community-based security groups in combating crime across the state.
