The influential Justice Forum has thrown its weight behind Dr Obafemi Hamzat in the build-up to the Lagos State governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a potential shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of 2027.

The group called on its members and loyalists across Lagos to support Hamzat’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer, positioning him as a leading contender to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Justice Forum, a key political bloc within Lagos APC, boasts high-profile members including former governor Babatunde Fashola, ex-deputy governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and Governance Advisory Council (GAC) chairman Tajudeen Olusi.

The endorsement was confirmed by James Faleke, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, who said the move is aimed at ensuring Hamzat clinches the party ticket.

Faleke made this known shortly after a strategic meeting between GAC members and President Bola Tinubu in Ikoyi. The discussions reportedly centered on the APC’s succession plan for the 2027 governorship race, marking the second such consultation within a month.

In a statement shared via his social media platforms, Faleke urged party supporters, particularly in Ikeja Federal Constituency and across Lagos, to rally behind Hamzat.

However, Hamzat’s path to the ticket may not be without contest. Businessman and philanthropist Samuel Ajose, popularly known as SMA Gold, has also secured backing from several political, business, and religious groups.

The APC primary election is scheduled to take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026, as outlined by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026.
