President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between governments, the football ecosystem, and the private sector to drive development initiatives in Nigeria and across Africa.

CAF disclosed details of the engagement in a post shared on its official X handle, alongside pictures from the meeting.

According to CAF, “CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and the Nigerian Head of State, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, met today on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi.

“They discussed several topics, particularly cooperation between the government, football, and the private sector in Nigeria and in Africa.”

Motsepe, who is expected to speak at the summit, is attending the event as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

President Tinubu had arrived in Nairobi on Monday for the summit, marking his second visit to Kenya since assuming office in July 2023.

According to the Presidency, the Kenya visit forms the second leg of Tinubu’s three-nation diplomatic tour, which began in France where he met with global investors and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fiscal discipline and economic reforms.

The Africa-France Summit, co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto, is themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth.”

The summit is focused on discussions around energy transition, green industrialisation, digital transformation, climate action, and restructuring the global financing architecture.

Tinubu is also expected to hold separate high-level meetings with African and global business leaders during the event.

Following the Nairobi summit, the Nigerian leader is scheduled to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, for the annual Africa CEO Forum billed for May 14 to 15, before returning to Nigeria ahead of the APC presidential primary slated for May 23.
