The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists within the area.
According to a statement issued by Hassan Abdullahi, troops of the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group laid ambush at a suspected crossing point where they later engaged the terrorists in a gun battle.
The statement disclosed that one terrorist was neutralized during the exchange of fire, while others reportedly escaped into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds.
Troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition during the operation.
Other items recovered from the scene included a camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and the sum of ₦62,900.
The Nigerian Army stated that the operation forms part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement and strengthening security across major routes and communities in Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
The Army added that troops are currently conducting follow-up operations in the general area to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
