A late-night car race involving students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapade (GAPOSA), turned deadly on Sunday, claiming four lives and leaving several others injured.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident stemmed from an informal competition between two students who staked ₦30,000 on a high-speed race. The drivers, in their bid to outpace each other, reportedly lost control and crashed into a roadside shop near a local garage.
One occupant from each car died instantly, while a third victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Two more people, who were inside the shop at the time of the crash, also lost their lives, bringing the death toll to four.
The crash left the shop and surrounding property severely damaged. Disturbing footage shared on <strong>AKAB Media Facebook Page captured bystanders frantically trying to lift one of the wrecked cars to retrieve bodies trapped underneath.
The incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for stronger enforcement against illegal street racing and reckless driving, especially among students and young drivers.
As of press time, neither the police nor the school authorities have issued an official statement regarding the crash.
