Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has officially endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the forthcoming governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the declaration in a statement released after what he described as “extensive consultations with party structures and leadership,” urging party stakeholders to rally behind Yahaya Seriki in the interest of unity, cohesion, and continued success of the party in the state.
According to AbdulRazaq, Yahaya Seriki possesses the qualities required to lead the state, describing him as young, people-oriented, astute, and broad-minded.
He noted that the APC chieftain has demonstrated strong political mobilisation capacity and has built significant goodwill among the people through his investments and engagements across the state.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the APC,” the governor stated.
He added that the endorsement should not be interpreted as a rejection of other aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket, stressing that all contenders remain qualified and capable.
The governor, however, appealed to party members and leaders to affirm Seriki’s candidature as the APC prepares for its gubernatorial primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
AbdulRazaq acknowledged the calibre and discipline of the other aspirants, commending them for their commitment to building on the achievements recorded by his administration over the past seven years.
“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people,” he said.
He further emphasised that in a contest involving about 16 aspirants, only one individual could eventually emerge as the party’s flag bearer.
The endorsement is expected to shape political alignments within the APC in Kwara State as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
