A legal representative for the parents of a student at Starville School, Abuja, has issued a public statement accusing the school of neglect, concealment and the mishandling of a bullying case involving their child.
The parents, represented by Edbridge Legal, alleged that their son suffered repeated bullying and physical assault by a teacher, contrary to the school’s public portrayal of the situation in a recently circulated video.
According to the law firm, the child endured months of sustained mistreatment by the teacher captured in the viral footage. Fellow pupils reportedly witnessed the incidents, which the parents say resulted in recurring headaches and blurred vision for the child. The statement added that the teacher allegedly slapped the pupil three times during the most recent incident, prompting the distressed response captured in the school-recorded video.
Edbridge Legal stated that the teacher’s actions were not isolated and that the school failed to offer protection despite earlier complaints. The firm criticised the school’s principal for recording the distressed parent rather than addressing the complaint or offering reassurance. The teacher, they said, recounted the incident “with chilling nonchalance” in the principal’s presence, while no apology or commitment to investigate was provided to the family.

The law firm further alleged that after the confrontation, the school principal posted the video to social media, turning a private ordeal into what they described as public embarrassment. They added that the principal later addressed the school assembly to announce the pupil’s expulsion and a purported refund of school fees, neither of which had been communicated to the parents.
In the statement, Edbridge Legal issued a series of demands to the school, giving a 24-hour ultimatum for the removal of the video from all platforms. The parents also called for an independent investigation into the teacher’s conduct, the implementation of child-protection measures, a retraction of claims regarding expulsion and refunds, and the release of CCTV footage allegedly showing earlier assaults.

The law firm warned that failure to comply would prompt the parents to petition the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for appropriate legal action.
They urged parents of other pupils at Starville School to review the welfare of their children, alleging that the institution had failed to prioritise student safety. “No child should ever live in fear of the very hands meant to nurture and protect them,” the statement concluded.
The school has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
