Media experts Akeem Alao and Aremo Diipo Akinsete have jointly trained the media team of Mushin Local Government on professional news writing and effective teamwork, equipping them with skills to improve clarity, credibility, and audience engagement in official communication.
The training formed part of a three-day capacity-building programme organised by the Chairman of Mushin LG, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, held at Coronial Hotel and Suites in Ajao Estate from Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Facilitating the second day of the session, Alao took participants through the core components of news writing—clarity, conciseness, accuracy, objectivity, structure, tone and style, grammar and punctuation, and the use of readability tools.
“News writing informs, engages, and influences. Readability ensures easy understanding. This session explores news writing components and their impact on how well people receive and understand the message,” he told the team.

On clarity, he advised them to “use simple language, avoid jargon, keep sentences short, and break complex ideas into smaller, understandable parts,” stressing that this helps prevent confusion and keeps audiences engaged.
On conciseness, he encouraged reporters to “say more with fewer words” by eliminating redundancy, using strong verbs, and combining related ideas for smoother flow.
Addressing accuracy, Alao urged the team to “verify every fact, quote correctly, and review content,” noting that correctness and factuality are the foundation for public trust. He also highlighted the need for objectivity, saying, “Report without bias, use neutral language, present multiple views, and avoid emotional words if you want to be credible.”
In his own session, Akinsete focused on the role of teamwork in achieving effective media operations. He identified mutual trust, clear communication, and a shared vision as essential pillars for a successful media unit.

He emphasised that a strong, cohesive team is vital for delivering timely, accurate, and impactful content. According to him, “Teamwork not only boosts productivity but also enhances creativity and problem-solving, enabling the team to stand out in a competitive media space.”
Hon. Aruwe commended his media team for their dedication and encouraged them to put the knowledge gained into practice, assuring that the local government’s communication will remain “clear, credible, and impactful.
