Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, delivered an inspiring address to graduating students at Clifford University, Abia State, urging them to pursue purpose over fame and to use their talents to create lasting impact.
In a heartfelt post shared on his X handle, the award-winning artist encouraged the graduates to “lead with purpose,” emphasizing that true greatness is not defined by popularity or numbers but by the lives one touches.

“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power,” Davido wrote. “I told them that talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”
The ceremony also marked the dedication of a new female hostel named after Davido’s late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke. Describing the moment as deeply personal, the singer said the building was a tribute to his mother’s lifelong passion for education and philanthropy.

“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and giver who believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he said.
Davido was accompanied by nightlife entrepreneur and friend, Cubana Chief Priest, who announced a generous gesture to pay the tuition fees of 50 students at the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of Clifford University, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido for his enduring support for education and for using his platform to inspire hope and excellence among young Africans.
The event concluded with the official ribbon-cutting of the newly commissioned Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, witnessed by university officials, students, and invited guests.
