Demi Care Foundation has called on the Nigeria Police Force to release a young disabled woman, Halima, who was recently transferred from Ayobo Police Station to Alagolo Police Station in Ipaja, Lagos.
According to the foundation, Halima, who is a Point of Sale (POS) operator, was wrongfully detained despite being a victim of fraud. They allege that the police have failed to pursue the actual culprit behind the theft, even though there are traceable details of the bank account to which the stolen money was transferred.
“Why are you not going after the actual thief? Why hold a victim? The police should do their job and track the criminal through the bank details,” the foundation stated in a release posted on its social platforms.
The foundation further highlighted Halima’s vulnerable condition, stressing that she is a disabled young woman, a single mother with a child at home, and has no surviving parents. She currently lives with her 90-year-old grandmother.

Expressing concern for her health and safety, Demi Care Foundation warned that Halima has not eaten since her detention and is battling medical issues. “If anything should happen to her in your custody, it won’t be funny,” the foundation cautioned.
They appealed for her immediate release, suggesting that if any settlement is required, Halima could make monthly payments to her employer rather than being subjected to unlawful detention.
The foundation concluded by describing Halima as a “survivor” whose story is already public and insisted she is “not strong enough to withstand the rigors” of police detention.
As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official response to the allegations.
