The Federal Government has intensified efforts to mobilise both private sector and global investments to drive comprehensive reforms in Nigeria’s education sector, positioning it as a key engine for productivity, innovation, and inclusive growth.

This was disclosed in a press release issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on March 24, 2026, following a CEO Breakfast Roundtable held in Lagos.

The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed the government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that education reform remains central to national development priorities.

According to the statement, the engagement brought together leaders from various sectors to strengthen collaboration under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative, with a focus on exploring innovative financing mechanisms to sustain long-term reforms.

The Minister highlighted progress recorded in policy reforms, digitisation, data systems, and partnerships, while acknowledging ongoing challenges such as the high number of out-of-school children, learning poverty, and critical skills gaps across the country.

To address these concerns, the government is implementing targeted interventions, including the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), strengthening teacher capacity, integrating out-of-school children into formal education, and scaling digital infrastructure nationwide.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, described the dialogue as essential for fostering deeper partnerships and collective action.

International development partners, including the Global Partnership for Education and the United Kingdom, reaffirmed their continued support for Nigeria’s education reform efforts, while Italy announced plans to host the 5th GPE Replenishment Conference in Rome.

Stakeholders at the meeting endorsed innovative financing models and the Basic Education Investment Case. The Airtel Africa Foundation also pledged support for digital learning initiatives and improved connectivity.

As part of the resolutions, a Public-Private Education Technical Working Group will be established to drive implementation, strengthen governance, and align investments with national priorities.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships, ensuring accountability, and delivering improved learning outcomes across the country.

“The Federal Government has intensified efforts to mobilise private sector and global investment to accelerate education reform as a driver of productivity, innovation and inclusive growth, ” the ministry said in a statement.
