The Federal Government has unveiled the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), a national education data platform aimed at enhancing planning, accountability and evidence-based decision-making across the country’s education sector.

Speaking at the launch of the platform in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said DNEMIS represents a major reform in the education sector, replacing the traditional paper-based Annual School Census with a real-time digital system that captures data on schools, learners, teachers, classrooms and education infrastructure.

According to the minister, the platform has already captured 124,548 schools, representing 58.4 per cent national coverage. He added that the database currently contains records of more than 40 million learners, 1.19 million teachers, 730,000 classrooms and 607,000 sanitation facilities across the country.

Alausa noted that all schools captured on the platform have been geo-mapped, while plans are underway to assign every learner a unique 16-digit Learner Identification Number linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).

He explained that the digital platform would support education planning, budgeting, teacher deployment, school safety initiatives and targeted interventions aimed at improving learning outcomes nationwide.

The minister commended development partners for supporting the initiative and reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Education to ensuring that every school, teacher and learner is captured on the platform to promote equitable, inclusive and quality education across Nigeria.

The unveiling of DNEMIS is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to leverage technology and data-driven solutions to strengthen governance and improve service delivery in the education sector.
