A coalition of former ward chairmen under the Progressives platform in Lagos State has formally endorsed the Deputy Governor, Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
In an official statement dated April 24, 2026, and signed by its Chairman/Coordinator, Abdulkareem Dauda Olasheu, the group said the endorsement followed “careful consideration of competence, character, loyalty, and proven service.”
The group described Hamzat as “a seasoned grassroots politician whose connection with the people remains authentic and enduring,” adding that his political trajectory reflects “consistency, dedication, and a deep understanding of governance.”
They also cited his tenure as Commissioner for Works, noting that he “demonstrated exceptional leadership, delivering impactful infrastructural development that continues to benefit millions of Lagosians.”
Commending his current role, the former ward chairmen said Hamzat has shown “rare loyalty, humility, and statesmanship” as Deputy Governor, working harmoniously in government while prioritising the interests of the state.
“Dr. Hamzat is a man of calm strength, thoughtful leadership, and attentive governance. His ability to listen, engage, and act decisively makes him uniquely qualified to lead Lagos State into its next phase of transformation,” the statement read.
The group called on party leaders, stakeholders, and residents of Lagos State to unite behind Hamzat, describing him as “experienced, trustworthy, stable, and deeply rooted in progressive ideals.”
“We call on all party members, stakeholders, and the good people of Lagos State to rally behind this credible and capable leader as we collectively work towards a greater, more prosperous Lagos,” the statement added.
