The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Lagos State Chapter has held its inaugural Senate sitting.
The senate sitting was held on Thursday April 2, 2026 at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology.
The meeting had seven senators in attendance representing various tertiary institutions across the state, including LASUSTECH, LASU, UNILAG, YABATECH, FCET, LASCON, and SACOED.
Proceedings began with an opening prayer led by LASUSTECH Senator, Comr. David Gabriel, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem led by the newly elected JCC Chairman, Comr. Odewunmi Quadri.
During the sitting, the Chairman constituted a Communiqué Drafting Committee, naming Comr. Iwalokun Lawrence as Chairman, alongside Comr. Bisiriyu Hassan as Public Relations Officer, with other members drawn from YABATECH and SACOED.
In his address, the Chairman, Comrade Quadri Odewunmi called for reports on conditions across campuses, with all senators confirming that there were no pressing issues in their respective institutions at the time.
The senate also proceeded to fill key executive positions. Comr. Ellah David emerged as Public Relations Officer, while Comr. Adetola Olagunju was affirmed as General Secretary. Comr. Lamina Ayomide was elected Vice Chairman, Comr. Odenike Quadri as Sports Director, and Comr. Oluwaseyi Akintude as Vice Chairman, Special Duties. All nominees were unopposed and received unanimous support from the seven senators present.
A motion to suspend further nominations for remaining executive positions until the next sitting was moved and unanimously adopted by the Senate.
During deliberations under Any Other Business, the FCET Senator raised concerns over a disclaimer issued by his institution’s executive council against the JCC Chairman, calling for investigation. In response, Quadri maintained that senators derive their mandate from the electorate and operate independently of executive interference.
The LASU Senator also commended the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs for their support towards student welfare, proposing a vote of confidence in their leadership. The motion was unanimously endorsed.
In his closing remarks, Quadri thanked the senators for their participation and assured them of inclusive leadership, while extending goodwill to student leaders across Lagos State.
The sitting was subsequently adjourned following a motion moved by the LASU President and seconded by the UNILAG President, with the next meeting date yet to be announced.
