The global Islamic organization, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), has issued a strong caution to Muslims and clerics worldwide against the un-Islamic practice of disparaging the noble companions (Sahabah) of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
In a statement signed by Alhaji Shamsideen Owolabi Oseni, NASFAT’s National Public Relations Secretary, the Society emphasized that Islam, as established in the Qur’an and Sunnah, commands complete obedience to Allah and His Messenger and mandates love, respect, and honor for the Prophet’s companions.
The Sahabah, NASFAT highlighted, were the pioneers of Islam, defenders of the faith, preservers of the Qur’an and Sunnah, and transmitters of the religion to future generations.
The Society declared unequivocally that abusing, hating, or slandering the Sahabah is un-Islamic and forbidden. Historical Islamic scholarship has consistently described such actions as signs of grievous sin, hypocrisy, or even disbelief. NASFAT cited authentic narrations of the Prophet, saying:
“The Ansaar: no one loves them but a believer and no one hates them but a hypocrite. Whoever loves them, Allah will love him, and whoever hates them, Allah will hate him.” (Bukhari 3672; Muslim 75)
Renowned classical scholars, including Imam Ahmad, Imam al-Tahhaawi, Abu Zar’ah al-Raazi, and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, have warned that maligning the companions shakes the very foundation of Islam. To demean the Sahabah is, in essence, to question the transmission of the Qur’an and Sunnah, an act that borders on disbelief. According to NASFAT, loving the companions is part of faith (iman), while hating them is a mark of hypocrisy and kufr. Allah Himself praised the Sahabah in the Qur’an, affirming His pleasure with them.
NASFAT therefore called on clerics and scholars to guard their pulpits and teachings against divisive rhetoric targeting the Sahabah. The Society also urged Muslims worldwide to strengthen their faith by loving and respecting both the Prophet’s family (Ahlul-Bayt) and his companions. Additionally, NASFAT encouraged the Ummah at large to focus on unity, righteous deeds, and teachings that benefit both worldly and spiritual life.
The Society concluded by reaffirming its mission as a global beacon of Islamic guidance, reminding all Muslims that salvation lies in strict adherence to the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the example of the righteous predecessors (Salaf-us-Salih), whose path was built on love, respect, and reverence for the Prophet and his companions.
