Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 civilians abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to the Nigerian Army, the rapid response followed a distress call reporting the abduction of worshippers at an ECWA Church. Troops promptly mobilized to the scene and, with the support of the Ariko community, pursued the fleeing terrorists, engaging them in a fierce firefight. Superior firepower forced the assailants to release 31 hostages, including one injured victim who is receiving medical attention.
Regrettably, five victims who had already been killed by the terrorists were recovered at the scene. The Army indicated that the fleeing attackers likely sustained significant casualties, evidenced by blood trails along their escape routes.
The Nigerian Army has intensified operations to track the remaining terrorists, rescue any potential captives, and ensure the perpetrators face justice. Additional troops have been deployed to reinforce security and prevent further attacks.
In a statement, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed: “We remain unwavering in our commitment to protect citizens and defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity. In collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders, our troops will sustain offensive operations against all threats to national security.”
The Army also appealed to the public: “Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting the Nigerian Army by providing timely and credible information. Collective vigilance remains vital to achieving enduring peace and stability.”
