The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, has denied claims linking him to the recent demolition and burning of shanties at Adeniji Adele Phase 1, Lagos Island.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Adekunle described the allegations as “false and baseless,” stressing that he has never been involved in property demolition.
“As a proud Lagos Island native, I do not engage in property demolition. I am a party man, I respect government directives, and I am always available for communication to ensure peace and prevent chaos,” he said.
He accused one Mr. Gbolahan Ogundimu Odusanya of being behind the rumours, noting that Odusanya has consistently spread misinformation without verification.
Adekunle also dismissed claims of a secret agreement with another NURTW chieftain, Comrade Rafiu Bashorun (popularly known as Abija), to acquire land in the area. According to him, the affected properties belong either to the Lagos State Government or to private families.
Reiterating his commitment to peace and community welfare, Adekunle said: “Adeniji Adele Phase 1 has faced security challenges, but I have consistently acted in the interest of law, order, and community welfare. I remain committed to protecting affected residents and advocating for the less privileged.”
He urged members of the public to disregard the rumours, assuring that his leadership of NURTW Lagos would continue to be guided by integrity, unity, and social harmony.
