Seasoned photography instructor, Akeem Jimmy Ajiboye, trained the media team of the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Olatunbosun Aruwe, in photography.

During the training, Ajiboye described photography as “the art and science of capturing light and creating images using a camera.”

The capacity-building session, organised by Aruwe to enhance his team’s technical and creative skills, took place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Coronial Hotel and Suites, Ajao Estate, Lagos.

Ajiboye took participants through the fundamental concepts, techniques, and practical tips needed to produce compelling images. He explained that photography is not only about operating a camera but also about using light, composition, and creative elements to tell stories and convey emotions.

“Photography can serve many purposes — artistic expression, documentation, advertising, journalism — but at its core, it is about capturing moments that speak,” he said.

During the session, Ajiboye shared beginner-friendly tips, including understanding camera settings, practising regularly, experimenting with techniques, learning from other photographers, and, most importantly, enjoying the process.

He also highlighted various photography genres, such as portrait, landscape, street, wildlife, and macro photography, as well as the core components — camera, lens, light, and composition.

The training ended with a hands-on exercise where team members applied concepts like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and focus to create visually appealing images.

Aruwe expressed satisfaction with the training, noting that it would boost the media team’s ability to document the council’s programmes and activities professionally.
