Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has emphasized the central role of young people in shaping Nigeria’s global influence and economic future.
Speaking on Monday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), where he delivered the inaugural Distinguished Lecture, Sanwo-Olu described Nigeria’s youth population—about 100 million under the age of 20—as the country’s greatest strength.
He said Lagos remains pivotal to Nigeria’s prosperity, given its position as the nation’s economic hub. According to him, the success of Lagos often determines the broader success of the country.
“Our vision of a $1 trillion economy by 2030 is ambitious, but it is within reach with focus, reforms, and a shared belief in our potential,” the governor stated.
Sanwo-Olu noted that with sustained reforms and the right investments in human capital, Nigeria can secure a stronger voice in global affairs and drive inclusive growth that reflects the dynamism of its youthful population.
