Four people lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Monday night at the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway in Ogun State, following a collision caused by speeding.
The crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus (BDJ 482 XC) and a blue MAN Diesel truck belonging to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. According to the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, the incident occurred around 11:16 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was being towed when the towing chain snapped, leaving it stationary on the roadway. The speeding Toyota Hiace bus subsequently rammed into the immobile truck, killing all four passengers aboard the bus—two men and two women—on the spot. No other injuries were reported.
Odunsi-Oyewole noted that rescue teams arrived within eight minutes of the distress call, and the victims’ remains were evacuated to the State Hospital mortuary in Ijebu Ode. The Nigeria Police Force has taken custody of the vehicles and commenced further investigations.
Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, especially at night, and to ensure towing equipment is safe and properly maintained to prevent similar tragedies.
