Popular TikToker, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court alongside his associate, Bello Oladipo, over allegations of resisting police officers, obstructing them from carrying out their lawful duties, and threatening and recording officers while they were on duty.
The duo was arraigned on Monday by the Lagos State Police Command on a three-count charge stemming from an incident that occurred on July 2 along the Coastal Road in Lekki, Lagos.
According to the police, the defendants conspired to resist public officers, obstructed law enforcement personnel during the discharge of their duties, and engaged in actions considered unlawful while the officers were carrying out official responsibilities.
The prosecution alleged in the first count that Peller and Oladipo conspired to commit the felony of resisting public officers, an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The second count accused the pair of obstructing ASP Agbede Victor and three other police officers while they were performing their official duties, contrary to Section 117(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charges are connected to a confrontation between Peller and police officers after he was reportedly stopped for driving a vehicle without a registration plate along the Coastal Road.
Peller had maintained that he had only recently purchased the vehicle. However, police officers reportedly rejected the explanation and insisted that he accompany them to the station.
The encounter escalated after the social media personality began recording the interaction. Peller later alleged that the officers became hostile, claiming one officer pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at him during the incident.
Following their arraignment, the court granted both defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, pending the determination of the case.
The matter was subsequently adjourned for further hearing.
