Troops of the 3 Division Garrison/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of weapons during a targeted operation in Plateau State. The arrest was made on 14 November 2025 as part of intensified efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms under the recently launched Operation Peace Shield.
According to a statement by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer for JTF Operation Enduring Peace, the suspect, identified as Ishaya Musa, was intercepted at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint in Bassa Local Government Area following credible intelligence.
A search conducted by the troops led to the recovery of six fabricated single-barrel rifles, two fabricated revolver rifles, one Dane gun, one expended cartridge, and other sundry items. The suspect and all recovered weapons are currently in custody for further investigation.
The Joint Task Force said the operation reflects its sustained commitment to preventing the movement of illicit arms, safeguarding residents, and strengthening security across its operational areas.
JTF OPEP also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies, particularly as the harvest and festive season approaches.
