The University of Abuja has addressed concerns raised by parents and candidates over perceived discrepancies between their results and post-UTME scores.
In a statement issued by its Admissions Office, the institution explained that the post-UTME grading system is designed to reflect the requirements of specific courses rather than simply assessing candidates’ results uniformly.
According to the university, subject relevance plays a key role in the grading process. For example, a candidate applying for Medicine (MBBS) will have Biology given greater weight, while Economics is considered irrelevant for the programme. Conversely, candidates applying for Economics or related courses will have Economics prioritised over Biology.
“This means that even when two candidates present identical grades, differences in subject relevance will naturally lead to variations in their post-UTME scores,” the statement clarified.
The university assured stakeholders that its admission process is transparent, credible, and aligned with established standards, urging parents and candidates to trust the system.
“The University of Abuja remains committed to fairness, accuracy, and integrity in its admissions,” the statement added.
